We look forward to continuing to serve our arts community and students, collaborating with creative partners and producing thought-provoking theater.

We have school year classes and showcases, in addition to a cabaret each June featuring current students, alumni and visiting artists and two summer musicals. In the past two years, we’ve expanded our curriculum and performance opportunities. It was thrilling and so crucial to keep our community vibrant and connected. We created a hybrid rehearsal model taking advantage of parks, yards and other outdoor space in addition to weekly Zoom rehearsals. The capacity requirements kept the live audience small so the production was also live-streamed. We produced a fully Vermont Stay Home, Stay Safe compliant live production at the Island Arts Center in North Hero. When we were able to get back out on the stage, we performed Shaina Taub’s musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The result produced a series of powerful and moving original poems, songs and dance. Our hope was to create a space for students to elevate their voices and stories.

We had a stellar group of teaching artists who worked with our students on creating performance pieces through the lens of activism.

In the spring and summer of 2020, our curriculum focused on racial justice and equity. With the world shut down, we took to Zoom. Our mission was to continue to cultivate the student artistic community by giving theatrical voice to stories that open pathways for connection. Theaters were hard hit and schools cut their arts curriculum in March 2020. Without the theater, so many of us would be lost. As theater arts educators, we deeply understand how critical it is for the students and young adults in our community to remain connected.
